ScrnShots Plugin For WordPress

One of our users, Matt Varone (aka: sksmatt), wrote a ScrnShots Plugin For Wordpress!

It boasts easy setup and configuration via an admin panel, as well as cache support, “allowing you to save thumbnails on your own server.”

The cache support is pretty freaking cool, so check this nice little tool out!

Thanks Matt!

Planned Upgrades - Oct 6, 9PM PST

Tonight at 9pm Pacific Standard Time, we will be upgrading a few peices of the ScrnShots infrastructure. While we don’t plan on having any major outages, you can expect ScrnShots to be partially available for 15 - 30 minutes. Thanks for your understanding and keep posting all the great screenshots.

Big Things Happening in ScrnShots Land!

Desktop Integration: these two words have been floating around our office a lot in the last few weeks, and now that we have officially released ScrnShots Desktop, they have finally become a reality!

Our hope is that ScrnShots Desktop will eliminate the barriers to uploading and sharing your screenshots, making the process of taking and uploading screenshots much easier and faster.

Here are the features:

  • Application lives in the menu bar, which means that it’s out of the way, but always there when you need to snap a quick screenshot
  • Take screenshots of a section or an entire window
  • Upload screenshots from existing files on your computer
  • Auto-completion of tags based on your existing ScrnShots tags (Mac version)

This is a beta release, so please post any feedback or bugs to our Forums. We have lots more functionality in the works for both desktop apps and look forward to getting them up to a 1.0 release with your help!

Search ScrnShots

For all you inspiration hunter and gatherers out there, you can now search ScrnShots for inspiration!

You can search according to the following criteria:

  • All screenshots
  • Your screenshots
  • Your favorites
  • Your contacts’ screenshots
  • Users

Public API

This one’s for the developers. We have released the beta version of our Public API.

If you want to create your own tool to integrate with ScrnShots, this documentation contains the info that you will need.

Currently, we are still working on the full API for ScrnShots.com. However, any API methods that are documented within this document will be considered to be stable and will be supported by ScrnShots.

Firefox Plugin Coming Soon!

We are going to be releasing a Firefox Plugin in the very near future!

New Features!!

I know it’s only day 2, but we’ve already added a few new features!

Although small, they are worth noting:

First, on profile pages you can now view recent activity “on you” and “by you”.

Also, within days we will be launching a “logged-in” dashboard homepage that will allow you too see an aggregated list of all your and your contacts’ activity on ScrnShots.

Second, you can now subscribe to an RSS feed of your contacts uploads. No more snooping around the site to see what your contacts are doing, you can get it right from your cozy RSS reader. To subscribe to the feed go to your profile page and click the big RSS icon beside the contacts count on the left side.

Finally, we’ve heard your pleas for desktop integration, and we want you to know that we are planning to launch it on Tuesday, May 20. If you want to have a sneak peek, check out this earlier post. More details to come soon!

ScrnShots, RELEASED!!

Hey friends,

We’re very happy to announce that ScrnShots has released to the public! It’s been a long time coming, and we would like to thank you all for being so patient and supportive.

You can signup for an account right now.

Here’s some of the features that you can look forward to:

  • Upload your screenshots
  • Tag and describe screenshots
  • Comment on screenshots
  • Add contacts
  • RSS feeds
  • Screenshots widgets to embed in your blog
  • Desktop uploading tools (coming in two weeks!)
  • Browser plugins for integration with your workflow (coming soon)
  • Groups (coming soon)
  • ScrnShots Public API (coming in two weeks)

If you find ScrnShots useful, or know someone who would, please pass it on to others! We have tried to make it super-easy for you, by including HTML embed tags beside every screenshot.

If you have any suggestions or questions, please feel free to voice them here.

Profile Page Preview

We are happy to introduce some new features that we have added to the profile pages. They will be implemented on Tuesday, for the public release.

The first major change is the sidebar on user profile pages which now features quick access to user stats and RSS feeds. It will also be extremely easy to add users as contacts as you can see by the big “Add As Contact” button.

ScrnShots - Profile Page Sidebar

And the other section that we will be adding to the profile pages is the recent activity section:

ScrnShots - Recent Activity

The recent activity will showcase what you’ve been up to. Within the next week it will also include activity that has been done on your items. What do you think of the additions? Feedback? Thoughts?

Launch Date Confirmed!

Its official, ScrnShots.com will be launching to the public on May 6, 2008 at 10:00am PST.

The Big Question - Free?

At launch, ScrnShots.com will be completely free. Users will be able to upload unlimited screenshots to the system at no cost. On June 6, 2008 we will launch our ScrnShots PRO (paid) accounts which will include private functionality (ie: private screenshots, private groups) and unlimited screenshot uploads. At that time, basic accounts will be given a monthly cap on the number of allowed screenshot uploads. The cap will be high and won’t affect any screenshots previously uploaded to the system. Although we haven’t confirmed a final price structure for the PRO accounts, they will be inline with other image hosting services. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to express them in the comments section.

New Features

On top of what’s already on the site, we’re adding a few new features for the launch. These include:

  •  Contacts - This is super useful. Once you add friends as contacts, you get a feed of their screenshots directly into your profile. No more wading through pages and pages of screenshots to find your friends.
  • Ratings - This will be the first iteration of our rating system. At launch, screenshots will have a five point rating that all logged in members will be able to rate them on. Of course, you’ll be able to sort your screenshots by rating and the system will surface the highest rated every week.
  • Activity Feeds - Profiles and dashboards will include feeds of recent activity by you, your contacts and your screenshots.
  • New Home & Explore Pages - The content on the home page and explore pages will be expanded on to feature the best screenshots on the site as well as make it easier to find/browse the screenshots that your looking for.

We’re super excited to get more users on the system and start growing the design community at ScrnShots.com.
