[Screencast] Mac Desktop App Preview
Here’s a preview of the ScrnShots mac desktop application that we are developing. It uses the exact same API that will be released publicly once we open our doors. [ScrnShots] Desktop Application Preview from Greg Bell on Vimeo.
The functionality is no way finished for the application, but we would love to get any feedback that you have. Would this type of an application make it easier for you to use ScrnShots?

Looking awesome Greg! It’d be great if the url field could pre-populate, however I know your Firefox plug-in version of the app will have that functionality. Nice work!

Why don’t you create an AIR app for this?

I would love to be able to do this in AIR, but AIR doesn’t have access to the system functions to take screenshots. AIR can take screenshots of itself, but nothing outside of its sandbox. Which means that you would have to implement a browser to take web screenshots and you still wouldn’t be able to take screenshots of your desktop.

Seems like maybe you should just use Skitch and add ScrnShots as an upload option?

I would love that. We are publishing our public API in May and I would love to see as many tool as possible integrate with it. Skitch is a great example of a tool that would be useful to ScrnShots users. I plan on contacting them to see if we can get ScrnShots accounts integrated into their product.
The reason we want to build our own app is so that we have control over the feature set of the application and aren’t relying on a third party. We have lots of ideas for making and sharing interaction design patterns easier, but they rely on good tools to capture the content and markup/share them.
PS. @Chris - Love all your screenshots on flickr! Hopefully we might be able to sway you over
